Education

1991: High school diploma (Abitur) in Münsingen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany

1993 - 1999: Law studies at the Christian Albrecht University in Kiel, at the Université Robert Schuman in Strasbourg and at the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich

1999 - 2001: Legal clerkship at the Higher Regional Court of Munich, Bavaria, Germany

2002: Admitted to the German bar

2003: Master's degree in European and International Business Law (LL.M. Eur.)

2004: Doctorate in political science at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Munich

 

Professional Career

2002: Research Assistant at the Chair of Prof. Voigt at the University of the German Federal Armed Forces in Neubiberg / Munich; consulting for the Federal Ministry of Defence.

2003 - 2004: In-house Counsel at the Headquarter of the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft in Munich. Legal structuring of international cooperations, spin-offs and Venture Capital financing.

2005: Founding of SA I Seybold Associates in Beijing / China; providing independent legal consulting for foreign Enterprises, Entrepreneurs and Individuals in all China related matters.

2013: Head of the Legal Department of the Beijing Office of a well-known German legal, tax and business consulting firm. From 2016 responsible for the Beijing and Guangzhou Offices as Managing Partner. From 2019 also responsible for the legal practice of the Shanghai Office as Co-Head.

Beginning of 2020: Relocation to Vietnam as the assigned future Head of the Vietnam operations in Saigon and Hanoi.

June 2021: Change to a renowned international Law Firm with its Asia Headquarters in Singapore, setting up and heading the Vietnam Branch in Saigon.

2023 - 2025: Head of Legal for the German sales entities and manufacturing subsidiaries of a world-renowned, stock-listed Swiss watchmaking corporation

2026: Independent legal practice through the law firm: Kanzlei I Dr. Seybold, located in Frankfurt Area / Germany, with legal consulting entity for East-Asia and South-East-Asia: SA I Seybold Associates, headquartered in Beijing / China, and further cooperation offices in Saigon / Vietnam and Singapore.

Dr. Seybold speaks fluent Chinese, English and French, and basic Vietnamese.

He can read and write in Chinese language and translate Chinese contracts, documents and legal texts.

Dr. Seybold's fields of legal expertise and specializations are:

• Acting as Legal Counsel for European companies in all legal matters,
• German and international economic contract law,
• German and international commercial, corporate and antitrust law,
• German and international labor law,
• Transactions, share deals, asset deals, cross-border mergers and change of corporate legal form,
• Litigation before German and foreign civil courts (with the assistance of our local lawyers),
• International Arbitration proceedings with focus on China and the ASEAN region.

From 2018 - 2021 Dr. Seybold was officially appointed as Arbitrator at the Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration (SCIA).
